Canadian indie rock outfit SWiiMS have released their new EP Through Waves offering some tasty melodic hooks and driving energy.
Combining their own musical influences of New Wave Dream Pop, Brit Rock and Shoegaze together, the quartet (Mai Diaz Langou (vocals and guitar), Colin Thompson (guitarist), Ken Hume (drums) and Cian O’Ruanaidh (bass)) swirl around beautifully crafted lyrics and harmonies to create a sound that is all their own.
Rhythm-driven debut single ‘Fill Me Up’ caught people’s eye and second single ‘Let You Down’ keeps that pedal to the floor. The song is the perfect fit for an alternative 90s radio station; it immediately soaks up dream pop from artists like The Cure and Flaming Lips and soothing shoegaze of Slowdive.
Speaking about the meaning of ‘Let You Down’, the band said: “The track details the stages of the relationship, from the beginning of infatuation and all-absorbing intensity to the bitter conclusions of failed experiences.”
The six-tracked EP also includes ‘Counting an Hour’, ‘Say She Goes’, ‘Hand of Love’ and ‘Slow Day’.
