With 2016 over, we look ahead to what musical talent 2017 can offer, and with the masses of acts out there in the industry there is plenty for us to get excited about. Throughout January, ICM will be highlighting one new band each day and showing just why they should be on your music radar. Our 29th band is Glass Peaks.
Hailing from Kent, Glass Peaks creates sweet alt-pop tunes. Since their debut ‘Your Eyes’, Glass Peaks have been gaining huge recognition through BBC Introducing Kent and various other DJs, including Huw Stephens and Abbie McCarthy who describes their sound as ‘making huge, catchy, riffy tunes’. They are quickly becoming Kent’s hottest new indie band.
Louderthanwar claims ‘Glass Peaks could quite easily go on to be one of next year’s break out bands’ so 2017 is likely to be the year where Glass Peaks really show us what they are made of and their sophomore single ‘Speak and Spell’ is one of the best ways to start their year.
The single holds all the best qualities from ‘Your Eyes’. Moody guitar riffs, hard-hitting drums, gripping bass lines and all topped off with Lewis’ haunting vocals but also brings the band’s sound to a new level.
The band have crafted a clever track which at times slows down and reveals the raw nature of Lewis’ eerie vocals. It has a mystique vibe and the opening lines give way to the evocative atmosphere.
Glass Peaks were also nominees in ICM’s Greatest Discovery Award 2016.
We will be announcing a new band every day throughout the entirety of January and the ICM long list will be announced on February 1st.
