Y Not Festival – What The Bands Really Think

Y NOT

It has been 5 days since Y Not Festival took place, and we have nearly adjusted back to normal life. For us, an unforgettable experience. But, what do the bands think? We see them come and go performing their set and making people’s day with that brand new single, but what do they get up to once the set is done? We asked the latest band from Portsmouth, Kassassin Street. The latest band from Glasgow, White. And Rob Green from Nottingham to get an all-round UK decision on the festival this year.

Stephen McMahon: Describe the crowd to us?

Kassassin Street: Amazing, its half 1 in the afternoon, we just went in with it, we thought some people would still be hanging from the day before but we were shocked to have such a willing crowd. It was great.

White @ Y Not Festival

White: We filled the tent and there were lots of smiling faces. We were so pleased that they were all singing along and not only with the main songs but with all of them. A lot of people jumping about, and for us to make someone that happy from our music, it’s a great success. The crowd thankfully is what we expected. We wanted to be a jumpy party band and judging by the crowd we have done that. We are a in-your-face band but hopefully that comes across as being the real deal.

Rob Green: It was great, playing the Quarry tent, it had such a good vibe, I was the playing the BBC introducing slot and therefore everyone seemed to have an open mind when it came to me playing. People were enjoying themselves, having fun. Just a brilliant vibe overall. I also got to speak to some of the fans afterwards and the comments were fantastic.

Crowd for Kassassin Street @ Y Not Festival

Stephen McMahon: Without a doubt, you can’t have a festival without the food. Which van did you fancy?

Kassassin Street: Falafel kind of guys, not vegetarian or vegan but you can’t beat festival falafel.
But then again a good pie and mash van can’t go a miss. Pizza takes too long, burgers are boring, chips are boring as well. If there was a scallop’s van! Ah!

Rob Green: Well, I’ve seen this one van about, it it smells delicious. It’s like a slow roasted pulled duck. It’s unreal, you have to smell it and then you will definitely want it!

Stephen McMahon: Music festivals, celebrating music, what other acts would love you mention?

Kassassin Street: New Desert Blues, dark Americana music. Also Everything Everything, I’m a huge fan.

White: Inheaven are a great band. Baby Strange, they’re great. Kloe as well from Scotland is brilliant.

Rob Green: Kelis without a doubt, she’s just one of those artists that everyone has to see. DJ Fresh too, his performance will be memorable. And I’m also a fan of JP Cooper as well.

Stephen McMahon: Y Not for me was memorable. But what do you think is the Unique selling point that Y Not Festival has over all the other music festivals?

Y Not Festival Main Stage

Kassassin Street: To be honest, at festivals you get a certain crowd, where people are getting smashed and the music helps, then you get festivals where the music is the main priority. Y Not festival seems like everyone is her to celebrate music and everyone seems to have open eyes to new music and new bands.

Rob Green: I think it’s great how there is lots of activities for a huge range of people. It doesn’t matter who you are here, there is definitely something for everyone to enjoy and make their festival experience great.

Stephen McMahon: What have we got to look forward to in the future from you?

Kassassin Street: Well, we purposely eased off the amount of gigs we did this year because we’ve been working on new music. So soon we will be releasing a couple of singles around October. 2 songs called ‘Love Without Borders’ and ‘True Romance’. They will be on an EP but we have no details about that yet.

White: Well, we have an EP coming out in October, it’ll feature our single ‘Private Lives’. It’s going to be called ‘Cuts That Down Bleed’ which is actually a line from ‘Private Lives’.

Rob Green: I have more music on the way later this year that is pretty new to me in the sense that I will venturing more in solo music. But definitely watch out for it!
