Y Not Exclusive – Interview With Black Honey

Y Not Festival was another incredible festival set in Pikehall, Derbyshire. With such a huge and exciting line-up, it attracted a varied range of music lovers to see new acts and established acts. One act that isn’t new to Y Not and is quickly making their way up the ranks is Black Honey. With their fanbase currently rocketing, we had a quick chat with the band to see what they thought of their set and the festival as a whole!

Stephen McMahon: Overall Black Honey, how was Y Not Festival? Sum the whole experience up.

Black Honey: We loved it, Y Not is such a fun festival! Last year we opened the main stage, this year we closed the Jack Daniels stage and there was a totally different vibe. It was so emotional to see so many smiling faces screaming our songs back to us.

Stephen McMahon: Describe the crowd throughout your set.

Black Honey: You know its gonna be a good show when a circle pit begins in the intro of the first song. It got very rowdy very quickly, stage managers told us they were going to pull the plug if it got any more raucous. We love pits but we hate violence so always ask everyone to look out for each other.

Stephen McMahon: A lot of bands like to mix their sets up every now and then. Did you do this for Y Not?

Black Honey: Yeah played our next single live for the second time ever. We love changing the set up because we just have way too many songs.

Stephen McMahon: Throughout the whole weekend, what other acts did you manage to catch? And how were they?

Black Honey: We caught Baby Strange and are mad fans of them; we play their tunes in the van all the time and they get more badass every time we see them.

Stephen McMahon: Festivals are known for their festival food. Did you try out some of the cuisine?

Black Honey: We enjoyed the luxury cuisine of the free backstage whisky bar mainly, I think we also splashed out on sharing a portion of cheesy chips too; they were pretty cold and cost a fiver.

Stephen McMahon: Festivals are great ways of bands meeting the fans and vice versa. Can you recall some great people at the festival and why they made a lasting impression?

Black Honey: The fans made a massive impression on us, we met one chap that said he tries to quit going to festivals because he is too old, but shows like ours makes him addicted to them. That fella really stuck with us. Also we had 4 people travel from Paris to Y Not especially to see us!

Stephen McMahon: What was the wackiest festival moment you witnessed over the weekend?

Black Honey: We saw someone stagger off the Ferris wheel and throw up on themselves!

Stephen McMahon: Overall, from your experience, how well do you think Y Not festival was run?

Black Honey: Really well, the sound was great and people were really nice to us.

Stephen McMahon:
Now that Y Not is out of the way, what have you got planned for the future as Black Honey?

Black Honey: We head to Asia next to play some shows in Korea and Japan. We finish summer with Bestival before we drop our new single, followed by our UK headline tour where a load of the shows are already sold out! We can’t wait to see everyone out on the road.
