Sounds Like A Storm

The Music That Made Us – Sounds like a Storm

Breaking out of Leeds, Sounds Like A Storm are gearing up for what could be on of their most exciting years of their lives. After already performing for months within their hometown, these 4 talented lads have gained a respectful and loyal fanbase. That fanbase is soon to boom though with an extensive list of tour dates across the country.

Hitting up venues such as Jimmy’s in Manchester, The Basement in York and The Mulberry Tavern in Sheffield, Sounds Like A Storm are sure to be in the spotlight in the near future… if not already!

With continual success as a band, it’s interesting to see where the creativity and outlook stems from. Inspiration. We caught up with SLAS to ask those all important questions!

ICM: Tell us a bit about Sounds like a Storm, how did it all start?

SLAS: We started out as a school band, competing in a local competition to play the Leeds 02 Academy. After winning the heats at the academy, our current drummer (Joe) came up to the lead singer (Sennen) asking him to join his band which he started at college – exchanged numbers and then after that Joe come to one of our sessions to replace our very young drummer, and he’s never left.

ICM: What band inspired you to start making music?

SLAS: Pretty Vicious, hands down. The energy they showed on stage at such a young age just showed to us anything is possible if you can stand out.

Pretty Vicious are a rock quartet hailing from Wales, who gained traction after being picked up by BBC Introducing in 2014 by BBC Radio Wales. They have had a BBC R1 Hottest Record in the World through ‘It’s Always There’. Its no doubt that Sounds like a Storm see these as an inspiration after bagging sets at Glastonbury and The Isle of Wight Festivals alongside acts such as The Prodigy and Fleetwood Mac, as well as supporting indie rock heavyweights The Courteeners and The Vaccines.

ICM: Is there a song which reminds you of the days when you had just formed?

SLAS: Glass Caves, ‘Alive’. It’s a song we can recall being played in the early days of the band, and the drum beat from that song we adapted which influenced the drums in our debut single ‘Emission’.

ICM: When growing up what were the tracks which defined your adolescence?

SLAS: On a whole, we’re influenced by the dominating indie rock and roll bands such as Arctic Monkeys and Oasis, as they set the bar of holding these huge shows which we can only dream of playing. As we have become more involved with the industry, bands like The Blinders, Redfaces, Timesellers and Sheafs have all had a huge influence on the music we want to create.

ICM:  A look into the future, Whats up next for Sounds like a Storm?

SLAS: We have a UK tour coming up in September, we play London courtesy of you lovely people at ICM, we play Holy Trinity Church in November for Scruff of the Neck, we have a new single released at the end of the year along with a huge headline Leeds show.

ICM: How are you feeling about performing in London at the Finsbury Pub for IndieCentralMusic’s Blogtober?

SLAS: We’re very excited to be making our London debut, with great bands like FAERS and Glass Peaks. Just excited about heading out on the road all the way to London and getting our music heard down south in the central city.
