Swiss Lips Debut Album Review

I first heard of this amazing new band in 2012, Radio One played their catchy song “U got the power” everyday as part of “BBC Introducing”. Ever since that amazing memorable tune and 80s electric beat, the band has always interested me. Now in 2015 with their album named after them, “Swiss Lips”, together with a barrage of fans and 570,266 views on one of their videos, they stand out as a unique band. After listening to the album I know that they will be a massive part of music in the future, and with Dan Smith from Bastille as a fan, you know that they will be special.

The album starts with the popular song “Books”, which has a great beat infused with elecScreenshot_2015-03-19-10-03-49_1tric pulses leading to a stunning chorus that is bound to stay in your head. The next track is “U got the power”, this really attracted my attention to the band. There is nothing not to like about this vibrant and energetic track which genuinely makes you feel good inside. The song has so many different sounds and the music video features clips from the coolest dance films of the 80’s, they fit perfectly with the beat and sound of the song.

This leads to the next track “Hunny”, which showcases Sam Hammond’s unbelievable vocals reaching high notes and showing the pure talent of the band, with a very surreal futuristic sound. The track “Diamonds” is a fan favourite with a solid beat and is such a cool song that is unforgettable. “Over and Over” has a chilled beat which relaxes you with its smooth tunes and the authentic effect of vinyl playing with imperfections. The track doesn’t particularly stand out compared with the rest of the album but it’s great to hear a different style.

One of my favourite tracks on the album is the brilliant “In The Water”, which is such a good song to dance to with its infectious quality.  “Forever” has a great intro which immerses you into their music. I also think this track would be awesome live and having seen them in the Bush Hall gig last year, I know that they put on the King of all Shows. Then the quality of “Carolyn” with the video and single cover of a Corvette oozes style and confirmation that Swiss Lips create the best choruses ever.  Overall the debut album is a gem – invest the time and listen to this up and coming band.
