Song Of The week: Don Broco – Everybody

Don Broco

Don Broco’s latest single ‘Everybody’ has exploded onto the scene, leaving a scorching mark. Broco’s frontman Rob Damiani perfectly encapsulates the roots of Everybody saying: ‘it sounds like Don Broco, but at the same time I don’t think it sounds like anything we’ve ever done before’. It’s an intriguing fusion of the usual rock with elements of pop, yet interweaved with trickles of funk, dance and 1980s New Romanticism. Don Broco are already having a cracking year, signing with one of America’s best independent record labels (SharpTone Records) and announcing they’re supporting Bring Me The Horizon on their winter dates. Furthermore Don Broco are smashing live performances up and down the country; bringing the insane energy and enthusiasm they have become synonymous with to their 20 date UK headline tour supported by one of my favourite bands Massmatiks.

Their latest single pushes the punchy bass lines and emphatic, hard-hitting guitar riffs to their limits. It gives fans, new and old alike, the full Broco experience. It has the raw, explicit lyrics reinforced by energetic and vigorous instrumentals that quickly build to a fast and volatile chorus. Damiani brings his signature dynamic and compelling vocals to the track to complete an instant rock anthem that has the ability to ignite both live performances and rock clubs everywhere.

However whilst the single itself is an intriguing mix of styles and lyrics: nothing can prepare you for the video.
One of the strangest and intriguing music videos I’ve ever seen, the disturbing and tongue-in-cheek humour shines through. After repeated viewings to try to comprehend the madness that unfolds, it becomes clear you’re not really supposed to understand what happens. It looks like a load of fun (both to produce and to watch) and depicts a whirlwind story of cowboys, possession, murder, dance routines and the FBI. It honestly is up there with the best videos ever created.

Don Broco constantly create incredible music, and Everybody is no exception. A beautiful piece of music with the emphatic energy a good track needs, accompanied by an intriguing video and the signature Don Broco style results in an excellent song from the band and one that sets a high standard for future records.
