Song Of The Week: Mowbeck – Vaseline

Mowbeck

Hailing from Nottingham, Mowbeck are back with a new track will grab you by the hand and take you away with it’s vocals. Almost ballad-like, the new edition to their portfolio is ‘Vaseline’, taken from the band’s recently released debut EP ‘Talkabout’.

After seeing Mowbeck perform live we have been keeping a close eye on the pop-rock four piece and we feel that they are finally at the stage worthy of Song Of The Week.

Like a lot of bands, their debut EP was recorded in a dingy rehearsal studio deep in an industrial estate. Here is where Mowbeck created a darker and grittier core within their music. Whilst ensuring that songwriting was always kept at the forefront and playing any gigs possible, the band’s strong DIY ethic caught the attention of Dean Jackson (BBC Introducing East Midlands) and earned them regular airplay on BBC local radios and even a slot on the BBC Introducing Stage at this years’ Reading & Leeds Festival.

Lyricist Andrew Thomas from the band states that “With Vaseline, we wanted to capture a certain kind of feeling that we haven’t in our other songs.”. He goes on to say, “The song was written about the obsessive feeling an individual has when they can’t have something or someone that they want more than anything. The idea however, that even if you had that thing, you know you wouldn’t appreciate it enough and would easily abuse it.”.

This is something we can all relate to and this is what makes us love it all the more!
