Song Of The Week: AIRWAYS – Reckless Tongue

Airways

AIRWAYS are the four-piece indie making explosive movements in the industry. AIRWAYS have been described as “a young, refreshing and exciting indie rock band with hints of Arctic Monkeys, Cage The Elephant, Gorillaz and Circa Waves”.

Their latest single, ‘Reckless Tongue’, is a guitar-fueled fire of immense sweatbox energy with a bass bearing chorus that purely provokes a rocky ‘ugh’ from within.

The band from Peterborough via Chicago, consist of Jake (singer/guitarist), Alex (guitarist), Jamie (bass) and Brian (drums).

Their first two tracks ‘Ghost Town’ and ‘One Foot’ made waves on the radio, being picked up by Charlie Ashcroft of Amazing Radio, John Kennedy of Radio X as well as a number of BBC Introducing shows. AIRWAYS’ already solid fan base grew rapidly thanks to their support slots for Southend-On-Sea band Nothing But Thieves, British-Australian favourites Sunset Sons and Hertfordshire rock band The Hunna.

Fresh off of their first headline UK tour, AIRWAYS aren’t taking their foot off the gas anytime soon, recently having concluded playing a successful string of shows at SXSW.

Now, they’re preparing for the release of their debut EP ‘Starting To Spin’ (due for release on 12th May), releasing ‘Reckless Tongue’ as its first single. AIRWAYS enlisted Nothing But Thieves guitarist/keyboardist Dom Craik and producer Julian Emery as co-producers. Emery is best known for his work with the likes of Nothing But Thieves and Lissie. Craik and Emery brought a uniquely modern, fresh, original sound to the band’s transparently intelligent lyrics and instantly captivating hooks.

‘Reckless Tongue’ is the perfect introductory track, as it is as much rip-roaring as it is a three-dimensional, and certainly makes your head spin. Singer Jake mentions how the track is about when “You’ve just walked into a nightclub. The floors are sticky. Shit music is playing. You’re wearing some shirt that you look mental in but your mate persuaded you that you look great. You’ve just seen a girl you fancy. You’re feeling claustrophobic because you’re convinced everyone is looking at you”.

AIRWAYS; the contemporary indie-rockers whose sensationally sweeping, soaring sound never fails to impress – you’re going to want to keep an eye on these lads!
