Razorlight rock the house at Electric Brixton

Razorlight

It is official, Razorlight are back. Last Saturday they took to the stage at Electric Brixton for an electrifying, sold-out show. It was the last show of their tour before they join fellow indie rockers the Kaiser Chiefs on stage in 2020.

The show was comforting and nostalgic, like meeting up with one of your oldest friends. It was filled with their popular but old classics like ‘In the morning’, ‘America’ and ‘Who needs love’ with injections of their new songs like ‘Olympus’. Whilst many of their fans have grown with them, the crowd was like their setlist with an injection of old and new.

Since dominating the indie-rock scene in the 2000s Johnny Borrell has not lost his touch. It was apparent that for many fans this is the first time they have seen the band since they ended their 10-year hiatus last year; the crowd was mesmerised, singing in unison and finishing every line.

Until the encore, the gig was fuelled by the static connection between the band and its fans. But they stayed true to their controversial reputation by inviting Climate Change activists Extinction rebellion to the stage for the last quarter of their set. We would be lying if we said this pleased everybody but after dividing the crowd into a frenzy of boos and cheers, they reunited everyone with a powerful rendition of ‘America’.

They’ve returned, they’ve conquered, and we can’t wait to see what is in store in the next decade.
