2017 Ones To Watch Longlist – Part 2/3

With 2016 over, we look ahead to what musical talent 2017 can offer, and with the masses of acts out there in the industry there is plenty for us to get excited about. Throughout January, ICM will be highlighting one new band each day and showing just why they should be on your music radar. Below is our second 10 Ones To Watch acts as part of the longlist part 2.

We will be announcing a new band every day throughout the entirety of January and the full ICM long list will be announced on February 1st.

Get Inuit

Get Inuit have started to find their place in the current scene, after releasing 3 singles; including ‘On and On’ and ‘Teriyaki’. They bagged support slots for Slaves, VANT and Spring King, which has given them a platform to showcase their cheerful yet raucous sound. ‘Teriyaki’ was described as ‘Gut-busting’ by the band themselves.

Declan McKenna

2016 gave us his singles ‘Bethlehem’ and ‘Isombard’, two more songs to add to the 18-year old’s plethora of lyrically powerful songs that challenge taboo subjects. ‘Bethlehem’ tackles the idea of religious discourse whilst ‘Isombard’, a song that made it onto the FIFA 17 game soundtrack, regards right-wing news outlets justifying police brutality. 2016 also provided Declan McKenna a performance of his single ‘Brazil’ on American chat show ‘Conan’, as well as numerous festival performances, headline shows and tours across the U.K and America.

Tom Grennan

Tom Grennan finished last year on a massive high. Not only was the Bedford boy picked up by record label ‘Insanity Records’ – He also managed to feature on Chase and Status’s newest single ‘ All Goes Wrong’, which saw him tour with the duo and play to some of the biggest festivals around the world.

2017 is going to be Tom Grennan’s year, read about it here.

Ten Tonnes

19 year old singer-songwriter Ethan Barnett goes by the name Ten Tonnes. Offering his take of indie guitar pop, he has supported the likes of Blossoms in the past.

Ethan Barnett’s musical talent must run in the family as his older brother is also George Ezra.

Black Honey

In March, Black Honey are going on a UK headline tour around the countries smaller venues but these shows will definitely be massive and not to be missed. You can also expect their debut LP later this year and if its anything like their EP, it will be one of the best debut albums this year.

Honey Lung

Already, 2017 has seen Honey Lung receive airtime on BBC Introducing with none other than Huw Stephens, as well as playing their first ever gig in the capital. They’re beginning to make huge waves; so keep your eyes peeled, as they’re our ones to watch today.

Oddity Road

Four college students from sheffield; Jack, Dan, Joel and Ethan. At just 17 these lads have already played home-town’s iconic Leadmill, Sheffield 02 academy, and most recently, landed a tour with the newly signed Sherlocks.

Oddity’s instrumentals are too brilliant for a band that only formed a little over a year ago, and moody vocals – edged by the northern accent that echo’s that of indie-rock entrepreneurs: Arctic Monkeys – give them a sound that is hard to ignore.

The Big Moon

‘Love In The 4th Dimension’ is The Big Moon’s debut album which is out on the 7th April 2017, which seems like far away but I’m sure that the indie quartet will release at least one more single before the album. Releasing through Fiction Records the album was recorded in London throughout the Summer, and co-produced by Catherine Marks and Juliette Jackson.

Speaking of the album, Juliette Jackson said: “We’ve been playing these songs for two years now, and it’s a dream come true to finally immortalise them on record. It’s like having eleven tiny babies all at once, all with their own little faces and voices and personalities, and now we’re ready to throw them out of our nest and into your ears.”

The Japanese House

Amber Bain (The Japanese House) made it onto ICM’s Song Of The Week list during 2016 with sensational track, ‘Good Side In’. It captures The Japanese House’s sound at its purest. Gentle acoustics and sweet synth beats have just grabbed people by the hand and taken them into a maze of excitement.

The Sherlocks

The Sherlocks have been a band who have been watched for a long time and have been tipped for greatness ever since their first BBC Introudcing Session. Made up of two sets of brothers, their journey has only just started to pick up speed. In 2016 they finally got signed to Infectious Music, the same label as Alt-J. However despite only being signed in December, The Sherlocks had already released some class music in 2016, Last Night and Will You Be There?.
