Listen: Venus Demilo – ‘Bite my Tongue’

Venus Demilo

Liverpool; home to some of the biggest bands that have steered British music over the past couple of decades. Oasis, The Smiths, Stone Roses; It’s difficult to see how any new and aspiring Liverpudlian artists won’t just be, to put it bluntly, wannabe tributes.

Blowing that out of the water with their new squeaky clean track; Venus Demilo.

Developing their own sound with a dreamy, feel-good attitude and youthful, plainspoken lyrics, it’s hard to believe that they formed in early 2014.

New track; ‘Bite my tongue’, to be released on the 30th September; vibrant, polished and upbeat. Bridging the gap from pop to indie with a casual, laid back feel.

“We’ve all been a little too honest after a few drinks and obsessed about it the next day. We like to write songs about real life situations that dig a bit deeper into what makes people tick.”

Seemingly genuine and upfront, Bite my tongue is the sort of song you’d find yourself singing with mates after a couple of drinks, ironically.

Seeing as every other emerging band seems to be from Yorkshire, it’s refreshing to hear something a bit different from the norm. The new track is rousing and effortless; the result of a subtly profound bass line and an electrifying guitar melody; clean, breezy vocal harmonies and a brilliantly fitting drumbeat.

‘Bite my tongue’ takes the finest of Liverpool’s  up and coming; Venus Demilo, from ‘easy listening’ to ‘listen again’.
