ICM Awards 2018: Best International Act Nominees

The ICM Awards have returned once more after another game-changing year of incredible Indie music. Here at ICM, we’re all about giving the spotlight to the artists that we think you should be listening too. In the past four years, we’ve given the likes of Tom Grennan, Tom Walker, Sundara Karma and even Rag ‘n’ Bone Man the chance to shine on our platform and they’ve gone on to be some of the most successful artists the UK has to offer. Now that we come close to the end of 2018, it’s time for you guys to let us know the Best International Act via the voting links below.

PSYCHEDELIC PORN CRUMPETS

Australia’s Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have already been through a well-storied existence. Coming off the blocks in 2015, the band immediately made big waves in their hometown of Perth, going on to release their debut album, ‘High Visceral Pt. 1’. That release saw PPC supporting the heady likes of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Dune Rats, Black Mountain, Skegss and completing their first national tour. Their sophomore album ‘High Visceral Pt. 2’ was released in April and the band recently completed their second national tour around Australia which was met with sold-out crowds.

PARQUET COURTS

Parquet Courts are an American indie rock band based in Brooklyn, New York, that formed in late 2010. Their joyfully absurd, danceable rock music is straightforward but alien, simple but endlessly referential. Earlier on the in the year saw the band release their seventh album ‘Wide Awake’ which caused quite a stir in the UK.

FIDLAR

Channelling classic skatepunk, thrash, and surfy lo-fi indie, Los Angeles combo FIDLAR emerged in the early 2010s, rising from the D.I.Y. underground to make a surprising run on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart with their eponymous full-length debut, which was also a critical favourite. Now the lazy boys return once more having teased new music in January and releasing the single ‘Can’t You See’.

HOSPITAL

Formed in 2011 by members of several Russian indie rock bands, Hospital is the ambitious vision of two unlikely pairings with soaring drums and gleaming guitar pop riffs, adding a hefty measure of electronica to their infectious indie track. Their third album ‘Memory waves’ is pure jubilation for any ’80s pop music fan, and it provides a moment to escape the madness of this world. It just goes to show, don’t kick the Russians down, they know how to make good indie-pop.

VISTA KICKS

Hailing from Northern California, Vista Kicks are best described as a smoked-out collaboration between James Brown and Jimmy Page, it bridges eras. Their full set of chilled out harmonies is a homage to the likes of Creedence Clearwater meets John Lennon in an old Americana dive-bar. We managed to catch the guys supporting The Kooks at Moth Club and found their complex textures of rhythm and blues-infused indie all too captivating.
