London-based alt pop vocalist Sharky has dropped her brand-new single ‘Tenerife’ last month and is an exciting new artist to get behind.
Following on from April’s EP ‘Love and Ownership,’ Sharky delves into abstract jazz and a heavy funk sound, underpinned by her unique ethereal vocals.
The slick production on ‘Tenerife’ moves away from her soul/jazz roots to focus on the realm of alt pop music. High energy ballads send lightning strikes through the song and could feel like a true club classic.
Speaking about the single, Sharky said: “‘Tenerife’ is a nostalgic time travel. I recall memories of moments that shaped my perspective of my Mum.
“The memory begins in Tenerife on holiday when my sister and I were little, my Mum had an orange bikini and we would dance around together. A lot has happened in my Mum’s life since then.
“I recall more recent memories visiting them in my home town, remembering one specific night out we had in a Working Man’s Club, celebrating the birth of a family friend’s baby. People were giving us pound coins for the juke box and we were smashing out the tunes and dancing as we did in Tenerife many moons ago.
“I feel proud of how far my Mum has come and how in tune with herself she has learnt to become. I wrote this song to tell her how grateful I am, it is a love song.”
Sharky’s release is rich in pop and truly deserves to be heard.
