This week’s features Tom Joshua, Nothing But Thieves, Neon Trees (pictured above) and… Find out more below…

Turtle Tempo: Tom Joshua – ‘Knock on a Hollow’

Teeside indie/folk artist Tom Joshua is a huge fan of film, and you can definitely hear the cinematic influence in his feel-good anthem ‘Knock on a Hollow’.

The single was produced by Cam Blackwood who most notably produced both of George Ezra’s chart-topping albums to date.

Nothing But Thieves

It’s All Indie: Nothing But Thieves – ‘Is Everybody Going Crazy?’

Southend five-piece Nothing But Thieves have announced their bold brand new single ‘Is Everybody Going Crazy?’ which is out now on RCA Records/Sony. ‘Is Everybody Going Crazy?’ is the band’s first new music since their 2018 EP What Did You Think When You Made Me This Way.

Speaking about the track the band said – “There is a quiet sadness about the verses. The character in the song doesn’t understand the world around themselves or relate to the people in it.

“What they once thought were the principles or morals they were meant to follow no longer seem to apply. Others seem to revel in the lunacy.

“In a place like that, it makes you realise that you need something to hang onto, like an anchor. There are a few elements of escapism throughout the song, whether it is through another person, stealing a moment to switch off or changing their mentality.”

Nexus Music Blog: Venus Demilo – ‘Purpose’

The members of Venus Demilo, currently based in Liverpool, were raised on the typical pop-punk and rock of the 2000s, but their sound has taken a move to the indie side of things. Reminiscent of Bombay Bicycle Club and Foals, their music is calm and steady with some dynamic and robust melodies.

‘Purpose’ is the third track from Venus Demilo’s new EP Northern Lights (release on April 20th). Released on March 20th, it is a track about dealing with adulthood and trying to find life’s purpose.

“I wrote ‘Purpose’ thinking of a close friend who was having a personal crisis about their direction. There can be a lot of societal pressure to find ‘where you fit in’ characterised by the question: ‘what do you do?’ which, in my opinion, is outdated in 2020. Being happy in your own skin should be priority number one. If a specific job contributes toward that then it makes things more simple, but if it doesn’t then a career isn’t everything.” – Tom Anderson, Venus Demilo.

Neon Trees

ICM: Neon Trees – ‘Animal’

To celebrate 10 years of their 2010 album Habits, the band have released a beautiful acoustic version of their hit single ‘Animals’.

For any 90s kid, like myself they’ll understand that Neon Trees exploded onto worldwide stage when the opened for The Killers in 2008 when they were quickly snapped up in a record deal and Habits was produced.

‘Animals’ was a track I used to have on repeat on my mp3 player and its 124 million hits on Spotify is just a testament to how good this track is.
