EP Review: KYKO – Animals

Scott Verrill, better known as KYKO, has now turned 19 since our last article on him! The South London is only a part-time singer according to his Twitter account but is on to bigger things with this EP Album ‘Animals’.

With some Lisbon, Bastille and The1975 inspired indie rock music. I completely love all four songs on the album. I was amazed to find out that he’s only 19, he is still a student with groomed sound with equal parts of matureness and mysteriousness. Floating on top a sea of uplifting beats, his charming music has worked wonders, creating a fairly large fan base that is rapidly improving. His dream has come true, some achievement huh?

Six months in the making, the EP has been teased since January when title cut ‘Animals’ first dropped. Despite the obvious waiting game new fans have been playing, it feels very apparent that the full EP should be unveiled in July, as it suits its summary surroundings impeccably.

Full of spirit and verve, KYKO’s indie-pop has a distinct tropical edge that gifts each of the four tracks a real sense of blissful purpose. Bolstered by rich guitar lines, lively percussion and Scott’s charming pop vocals, the EP is an impressively clear and exciting introduction to an artist with potential way beyond his years.

Debut single ‘Animals’ has already racked up a phenomenal 35,000 plays on SoundCloud alone, as well as receiving recognition from BBC introducing and hype from indie blogs across the internet (like ours).

Fusing melodic guitar rhythms, with a soulful vocal tone and a whole lot of spirit, KYKO is creating something special, something fresh that’ll prick up ears everywhere. His sense for making memorable melodies is alluring, and his DIY approach to creating his music makes it all that more admirable. He’s also had the help from Tim Woodcock (John Newman, Eliza Doolittle) and songwriter/producer Edd Holloway (Saint Raymond, Gabrielle Aplin, Charlie Simpson)
