Dorothy – The New Rock and Roll Stars

Long flowing hair, black leather jacket, and cowboy hats.

This is Dorothy.

Hailing from LA, the band comes with a lot of high expectations. High praise from Rolling Stone, magazine, award winning YouTube videos and working with super stars such as Joan Jett, Halestorm, and Dolly Parton, the pressure is mounting on the band to be something pretty damn special.

And boy do they deliver. Two albums of raw rock and roll with that needed twist of blues, hit of punk and sprinkling of country. This proud all American sound is sure to trap everyone who hears it into loving them.

These albums are pure power, thumping chords, bass for days and raw lyrics. Dorothy Martins voice sails, wails and punches you right in your aching heart. They have a perfectly balanced mix of sounds. You’ve got slow sassy blues with ‘Women’ and ‘Pretty when you’re High’. Guitar heavy party songs such as ‘Flawless’ and ‘Raise Hell’.  And let’s not forget the acoustic beauty of ’28 Days in the Valley’ and ‘Mountain’.

Debut ‘ROCKISDEAD’, which came out in 2016, feels almost rushed, its all emotion and fuzzing guitars, they had a lot to say and its almost shouted at you. There’s less diversity but some seriously good tunes. Whereas ’28 Days in the Valley’, which came out March this year, feels more thought out as if they paused to craft these songs a little more carefully.

While progression between albums is natural, this slight tone shift could be down to Dorothy herself currently being on a 12 step program after a particularly dark time in her life. Reportedly, she would turn up to the studio wasted. After hitting rock bottom, she finally accepted help and thanks her bandmates and record company for helping her out. She said the program, “keeps me humble.”

Dorothy is currently on tour in Canada and USA, all tour dates are on their website or Facebook page.
