CLOSEUP Artist Spotlight – Tamu Massif

Tamu Massif

CLOSEUP Artist Spotlight this week is Bristol outfit Tamu Massif who is gearing up to play one of his biggest London shows yet. And Tamu says how far off the album is from completion, go on then, keep reading…

Tamu it’s great to have a chat! We love your music as you well know. In the next few weeks you take on one of your biggest London headlines to date, what should we expect!?!

Thank you! You should expect to hear music from all my releases so far. Recently I’ve expanded the live show and invited other musicians to collaborate. It’s been cool arranging the tracks, trying to distil the most important elements of the songs and hearing how other musicians interpret them. In terms of what to expect, the only thing I can guarantee you is awkward, inane rambling from me in between songs.

Is there something special about playing your hometown?

Always! But I’m actually from Bristol! London was my home for a few years while I was studying French and Italian at uni though. It’ll always hold a special place in my heart. I still have a lot of good friends from London and happy memories which reside there.

Your tunes have been listened to hundreds of thousands of times across the world as Spotify informs us, Spotify is now such a big player in the industry, how important do you think it is for acts?

Haha it’s cool to have people listening across the world. It’s a cool time where, as an independent artist, these songs I recorded in my bedroom can reach people via streaming services.

If you created a Tamu Massif Festival, and could pick 3 headliners, who would you go for?!

Good question! Even though he’d be really reluctant to do it, I’ll choose John Frusciante as my first headliner. Fleetwood Mac as my second. And me as the final one since it’s my festival? But I’d have lots of guest musicians coming in to play with us. That or original line-up Blink 182.

Should we expect new music soon, or is that info too much to ask?!

Working on it! I’m split working on a few different albums at the moment but hoping to finish the follow up to “Little Death Summer” soon. Very excited to share new music.
