Bassist Walter Gervers leaves Foals

Foals have announced that bassist Walter Gervers has left the band today.

The departure was announced across their official social media accounts via a handwritten statement. The band explain that Gervers has left to “pursue a new life” and the rest of the band “love him and wish him well in his future endeavours”.

The band continue; “We had 12 amazing years touring together from a small postal van to the Pyramid Stage and beyond”. Further assuring fans they state, “it’s the end of a chapter not the end of the book” and go on to thank Gervers for all his “time, energy and passion”.

In the last 12 years Foals have become one of the best bands in the UK, being nominated and winning countless awards including; winning Best Album with ‘What Went Down’ at the NME Awards in 2016, Best Live Act at the Q Awards in 2013 and two years later winning Best Act in the World Today at the same event. The Oxford quartet were also nominated for Best Group at the Brit Awards in 2016 and have had two albums nominated for the Mercury Prize (Total Life Forever, 2010 and Holy Fire, 2013). Foals’ success is unparalleled in the UK, which was shown through their headline slot at London festival Citadel last summer.

The statement ended on an extremely exciting note, with the band confirming that they “are making new music and are working on the 5th LP. It’s gonna be the best yet. Keep those ears alive.”

So although it is extremely sad that Walter has left the band, we are definitely excited for the follow up to ‘What Went Down’, things can only get better and as the band say, “keep those ears alive”.
