Artist Spotlight: King Nun

It’s rare to see a band absolutely nail their sound and release consistently incredible tracks before an album or even an EP. Yet here I present one of Dirty Hit’s latest signees, King Nun.

I could sum this band up in one short sentence – “just go listen to them now and you won’t regret it”, however, I do actually have to write an article about them and their music so here come some words on the utter awe inspiring band of four 18-year-olds from London.

Some bands creep into the music world and disappear quickly, King Nun aren’t coming quietly and they won’t be leaving suddenly. Their ferocious scuzzy explosion of their debut ‘Tulip’ planted them firmly in the minds and ears of those listening. It pairs fantastic fast and hard drums and guitar with catchy lyrics and a killer solo that brings this track it’s pure unadulterated rage and power.

So rarely do bands beat a first single or first album, and yet, here come King Nun. ‘Speakerface’ was their second track to entirely match the power ‘Tulip’ had. It’s so aggressive and so catchy that it is a near perfect song. A steady but quick bass riff keeps you in time while the solos with an almost improvised feel blast over the top. ‘Hung Around’ and ‘Sponge’ came next, providing us with bombastic, absolutely stomping tracks which make you feel like you’re ready to take on anything and hit hard at the teenage angst we all know so well.

The band themselves toured on the Dirty Hit Tour, headlined by Superfood and co-supported by Pale Waves. Yet King Nun were the memorable ones of those nights, captivating a crowd of people who may not have known their music to bring them all into a sweaty mosh.

There are hints of bands like Queens of the Stone Age in their sound but frankly, this band has absolutely cornered what they’re going for and made it submit to their will. QOTSA eat your heart out because this band are out for musical blood.

We’re so excited to see what King Nun go on to do and their completely unhinged aggressive sound is almost fresh in the indie scene.
