Album Of The Year nominee #9 – Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club

Bands are constantly releasing new music, but in the music industry it seems to be albums that make the most impact. It’s probably due to the thought and consideration of structuring an album, having a hidden message, the artwork or even just making a cracking playlist! 2016 has certainly served up some beauties for our ears and it’s only fair that we celebrate their excellence.

Two Door Cinema Club delivered their stellar third album, ‘Gameshow’ in October. In 2014, the band were set to headline Latitude but they ended up putting everything on hold and endure a lengthy hiatus caused by Alex Trimble being hospitalised, tensions within the band becoming unhealthy and their mental health at risk. Alex, Sam and Kevin slowly gravitated back towards each other, realising why they created ‘Two Door Cinema Club’ and began to compile ‘Gameshow’.

The album was announced in March and was followed by the release of teaser singles, ‘Are We Ready? (Wreck)’ in June, ‘Bad Decisions’ in July and ‘Gameshow’ in September. It has taken Two Door Cinema Club to new heights; both in quality and Alex’s vocals through countless falsettos, especially in ‘Bad Decisions’. ‘Gameshow’ showcases a combination of their signature sound, 80s nostalgia and fresh synth-pop. Despite diverging from the sound which was delivered through ‘Beacon’ and ‘Tourist History’, ‘Gameshow’ was received with enthusiasm by fans and newcomers. Their third studio album climbed to 5th in the UK charts and was awarded a 4* review from NME, can be seen as nothing but a success.

Two Door Cinema Club went on an undercover tour as ‘Tudor Cinema Club’ around Ireland, these were their first performances since 2012. During the summer, they performed at some of the UK’s finest festivals, such as Glastonbury and Reading + Leeds. They have toured the US and will be embarking on a UK tour in January with Sundara Karma.

The winner of each category will announced on 3oth of December.
