Album Review: Won – Leaders In The Club House

It’s our first album review before it’s actually been released! And it’s their debut album and a complete new genre to music. Leaders In The Club House consist of Charlie Recksieck (Lead singer) and Spud Davenport (Drummer and vocals) from San Diego California who have their debut album ‘Won’ out June 9th. (You just have to love the name Spud!)

Firstly, their sound is very original and basic. Their voices are very monotone, without a wide vocal range can sound even apathetic from time to time as though they are bored, sound like a typical American Bar band. This stands out a bit in ‘These Goddam Devices’ and ‘Law Of The Jungle’. Their music sounds good from guys are musicians, but others could easily forget. This idea of “Fun Rock” is an original name for mainstream-style rock, but it sounds really interesting if it catches on.

The album consists of ten, happy and crowd lifting songs with an amazing atmosphere compared to other rock bands. Yes, boredom does sometimes slip into the singers’ voices and the music does get samey, but the vibe does make you feel happier after you’ve listened to the album. So I guess it works.
‘She Gets Loud’ and ‘Museums’ are by far the best songs in the album, Museums has a soft touch with the piano and drums backing up Charlie and Spuds soft voices.
‘She Gets Loud’ is a happy love song – which makes a pleasant, refreshing change to must rock and indie songs. The voices working in harmony to finish the last words in each line of lyrics just backs up the passion and determination that these talented singer/songwriters have.

There is nothing wrong with them, but will the new “Fun Rock” genre be liked by the public? I look forward to their success.
