Album Review: Wavves – You’re Welcome

Wavves

Having released several singles the wait is finally over for the new Wavves’ album ‘You’re Welcome’. Pushing back to their surf punk origins similar to ‘King of the Beach’ album Wavves have knocked it out the park with this.

The LP opens with four of the hard hitting singles the band had released prior to the album release including both of the more normal surf punk (Daisy) and fun experimental sampling with a glam feel (Million Enemies).

In the middle, the sound switches to what can only be described as the Octopus’ Garden of ‘You’re Welcome’ with an out of character upbeat song that sounds like it belongs on a soundtrack to a film (Come to the Valley). Don’t get me wrong, I love Octopus’ Garden contrary to what others might think of it, it’s only problem is being out of place.

If anything can be said about Nathan Williams, however, it is that he’s willing to experiment and change and play with their sound. The album itself is a fantastic build upon their roots and very exciting return for the band.

‘You’re Welcome’ is out now on Ghost Ramp.
