Artist Spotlight: The Old Pink House

“Sometimes you just know when a band are destined to be massive, whether it’s through potential or that they’re already at that standard. The Old Pink House are both.”

Self-described as “Cosmic Pop” this week’s Artist Spotlight have absolutely blown me away. This week we’re featuring Newcastle’s own The Old Pink House.

All of these incredibly different variations of genre’s bands come up with is one of my new favourite things. Cosmic pop is definitely up there in the top variations. The Old Pink House are quite honestly a powerhouse of indie rock/pop. Discovering them at their support slot with Anteros in Leeds’ Oporto, I instantly fell in love, but I had so many questions. How haven’t I heard of them before? Where can I see them next? Can I inject this music into my blood?

The Old Pink House have some of the most incredibly catchy indie bangers of the decade. The band’s latest track ‘Talk’ is my favourite, opening with what sounds like a PS2 game intro before exploding into the steady funky beat with an instantly hooking chorus; it’s like mixing the 80s with indie rock. On top of ‘Talk’ the group have three other singles released. This includes ‘Take it Out on Me’ which boasts over 300,000 plays on Spotify alone. Their music is most recognisable through its synth-pop leads and funk-pop basslines.

It’s incredibly fun music, and incredibly fun live. Sometimes you just know when a band are destined to be massive, whether it’s through their potential or that they’re already at that standard. The Old Pink House have both.

THE OLD PINK HOUSE ARE: Max Middleton, Harry Smith, James Grant and Christopher Brown
